The Magnet Tribune has received email messages from factories in China offering to sell us their products.
These factories want us to buy magnets and mannequins made by workers in China.
Back in the days when I didn't know the difference between an email and a website, more than a decade ago, a then-student who is now a college graduate and Facebook friend offered to create an email address using hotmail.com for The Magnet Tribune. It is [email protected].
My guess is she created it in 2000 or 2001 to give the paper an independent way to communicate, apart from having a school district email address and being subject to district restrictions. I appreciated her efforts at the time and get a bit of humor every now and then with the offers we
receive.
For example, on Oct. 26, 2004, a person named Miss Ojita Thang (yes, the "Miss" was in boldface) wanted to "establish the long-term business relationship with your esteemed company for our mutual benefits. The perfect magnets we can supply as following:..." and continued with a long list of names I'd never heard of, and what I presume are magnets.
She started her email with a .gif animation of a rose and a cheery, "Nice day! After reviewing your website, I'm so glad to learn that you may have requirement for the Magnets." (Yes, "Magnets" was in bold.)
Several photos were attached to the email; I'm assuming they are some of the magnets Thang wants us to buy. One of them accompanies this blog.
We were also invited to take a look at the company's online presence.
"For more details, warmly welcome to visit our website: www.fellermagnets.com," Thang wrote.
In case you're interested in buying shiploads of magnets, contact Shenzhen Feller Magnets Corporation at Building 21 in the Dachong Industry Zone, Nanshan, Shenzhen, China. If you want Thang's email address, a company phone number or fax number ask me.
Now for a bit of humor. At the I received this email I wasn't married, and seeing the word "Miss" in boldface prompted me to write her. She never wrote back. Nowadays I'm embarrassed I did this.
The other email came in yesterday (or Wednesday, Feb. 22).
A person who identifies himself only at "Julian," (no last name) from the Suzhou (China) Sunshine Co., Ltd., wrote, "SUNSHINE (China) Shop Display - manufactory of mannequins, torso (by material, plastic, etc.), they are with the fashion style, competitive & stable price, strong package, good surface."
He also sent us an image containing a variety of mannequins.
His company's website is www.shop-display.com.
Julian also invites us to contact him if you want to buy a shipload of mannequins.
"If you are interested in, please feel free to contact with us," he wrote.
If you want an Julian's email address, a company phone number or fax number ask me. He didn't include a street address in his email.
Both seem like happy people, since Thang, besides the gif animation of a rose she used at the beginning of her message, also used a small image of a smiling sun next to her name at the end. She also started her message with "Nice day!" Thang also used a lot of exclamation marks! Julian ended his brief email message
with, "Have a nice day!"
I can understand why the magnet company contacted us, but a quick look at The MT's website should be enough to give visitors the idea we're a student newspaper and not a business firm. The mannequin company, well, is a different story. I guess Julian received our email address from Thang, but who knows?
