Saturday night's storm got me to thinking about the one we had on July 26.
That one woke us up in the wee hours of the morning. I realized I had a great opportunity to shoot a storm and post it on the Laredo Morning Times' Facebook site. (Something we've been doing for some time is new to them!)
Fortunately my house provides a somewhat safe area to shoot storms from. To describe the area: there is a three-foot-deep foyer between the front of the house and the front door. There is a barred door across the opening for security.
When the storm struck I opened the barred door and also the front door, and stood inside the house. I turned on the camera and panned slowly at first, then aimed at the top of the oak tree. That's where you see most of the lightning, in the last half of the video. You'll also see the roof overhang of the house across the top of the video.
I was able to shoot for about 4 minutes before the wind shifted and started blowing rain on me and the camera. (Canon DSLR)
On Saturday night I didn't shoot because the wind and rain was coming from the direction my front door faces, and I was scared about being struck by lightning! Looking back I guess I should have shot through a window but didn't think about it then.
Hope you enjoy my storm video!
