This morning I updated content on the MT's website, according to instructions of students who took photos at our opening reception Thursday night gave me on Friday afternoon.
Since the show I've had the opportunity to reflect on how things went. My conclusion: Everybody has so much to be proud of!
There is much variety in the themes of the photos, from children to nature, and all types of interpretations of people from posed photos to interesting action shots. I liked how we had a number of black-and-white photos. That took me back to our early shows when we shot only black-and-white film and developed it and printed photos in our darkroom that's now the studio. In fact, one of our visitors commented on how we've changed from all b-and-w to mainly color photos.
There's so much more I can say about the photography, and so many of the photos are simply thought provoking and draw viewers in for further examination.
The hard work of so many help make the show a success. For example, the unseen contributions of first period freshmen (actually freshwomen) who folded the programs and also typed all of the names on a Microsoft Word business card template for me to print out. It's the yukky things that are sometimes the most important in contributing to the success of a project.
Another example: The group in 6th-7th periods who created the arrangements of photos on the walls, and missed their academic classes one afternoon to guide 8th-9th period students.
Something that's never been revealed: These 6th-7th period seniors showed up at the Center for the Arts on a Saturday (I don't recall which year) and finished hanging the photos. They've contributed so much, and I hate to see them go. I'm honored to award them their medallions next month.)
One more and we'll move on: The three students who shot the photos appearing in our photo story worked on getting these photos instead of chilling out. it's a lot to ask of the guests of honor, to work instead of having fun.
Allow me to insert a thank you to the 6-7th period student who donated a package of cookies. They went quickly!
The Center for the Arts staff was very helpful, and I appreciate their work on our behalf. The Laredo Morning Times had two photos in Friday's paper, one on page 1A and another in the Spanish section. The publicity is always nice.
A big crowd and impeccable behavior by everybody helps us to get another show next year.
Three photos grabbed my attention Thursday night, so I put them online then. I'll now put them with my blog in the order uploaded them. The update put a new photo out front.
The show will be up almost to the end of school, so if you want to visit
again, feel free to do so.
