Mrs. Webber started retirement with an eye on a thorough cleaning of the house.
Not cleaning as in sweeping dirt as we both are good housekeepers, but rather going through years of stuff to throw out what is no longer needed and to find things that her favorite charity, the Woman's Battered Shelter, can use. (There are also battered men there. They need men's clothing. Also, the sons of women there need clothing.)
Many other things she's put into boxes for the time being. Eventually they'll see the light of day.
Old paperwork, like bills and documents to cars we no longer own, get shredded. It's amazing what you find when you clean up!
She's been at it two of the three weeks since her retirement. And, the missus has done so much!
We (well, actually more she than we) started in a bedroom we use as an office. There are shelves on the wall, and she cleaned them thoroughly. Then she's cleared out a desk, and I cleaned out a closet. Then she took care of some boxes on the floor. There are just a few things left.
Next comes the garage. She has much stuff in there, in giant plastic boxes with lids. You've probably seen them at Wal-Mart, Dollar General or Family Dollar. Lots of boxes, so she'll go through them. I'll also need to go through a lot of stuff.
We've been making occasional trips out to the city dump on Hwy. 359, and I see another trip coming up in a couple of weeks, if not sooner. The dump is an interesting place. I'm thinking of writing a blog on it, and maybe taking a few photos. There are also lots of really giant birds that fly around there. (Hint: It would make for an interesting story.)
I'm sure we'll have a garage sale at some point. That ought to be interesting.
There's not much in the back yard. Just all of our plants all over the place, some chairs, and an old gas barbecue grill that I received from my son-in-law that we've never used. It's brand new but has been outside all of its life. The grill needs a propane gas bottle to cook the food.
One unusual thing about the grill (at least to me) is that all of the wording is in Spanish. I can see this being in the garage sale, or if you want it, contact Mrs. W. (I prefer cooking inside, in the air conditioning.)
We'll eventually get to the bathroom cabinets and the kitchen. I'm also painting the burglar bars over the windows. That's not spring cleaning, but painting what needs painting makes everything look so much nicer! I did three of them over the weekend, and Tuesday after school I want to sand down two or three more, whatever I can get done before nightfall, and paint Wednesday. More sanding Thursday and painting and sanding Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully I"ll finish by next weekend or mid-week next week.
The treasures! I forgot about them! Lots of photos of my parents and brother, all long gone. Mrs. W put all of them away. Also photos of of her son-in-law and daughter and their children (my step-daughter and son-in-law). The grandchildren looked so young in those photos! And drawings which my daughter made when she was young. I also had a row of cups and glasses from Texas State. I buy one every year we go for the collection.
I'm sure we'll find more treasures as we get to more and more places inside the house and garage.
